How To Build A Better eCommerce Website

Avoid the easy mistakes and build web traffic quicker
First impressions count has never been more true than when applied to websites. You have literally seconds to make a good impression. Here is some free advice that will help you keep visitors.

In order to sell a good business website to the consumer you need to understand that first impressions always count. To help you build a better business website, here we have ten tips to guide you.

  1. Layout
As the saying goes ‘less is more’. Try to keep the website as concise as possible, making the page easy to navigate a well as easy on the eye means the visitor won’t feel overwhelmed.
  2. Navigation
Simplicity is an important factor. Make your website user-friendly so that the visitor can navigate from one page to the other by just one click of the mouse. Use helpful, visible links to enable the visitor to find what they are looking for. You must however make sure that all your links are working.
  3. Colour
Pick a colour which matches the content of your website. For example; if designing a website for a child, use bright primary colours like red, green and blue, these will be much more eye-catching to a child. When it comes to the background, generally white background with black text is easier on the eye. However using two colours is ideal as long as they match and all the pages of your  website remain constant throughout.
  4. Correct spelling and grammar
You want your website to look as professional as possible. If a visitor loads onto a website and finds badly misspelled words and incorrect grammar you can be sure they won’t be on your website for long. An easy way to minimise spelling mistakes is to always double check through word-processing software.
  5. Speed
People don’t like to be kept waiting. If your website appears to be failing they won’t hang around, they will just move on to the next one. Make sure you’re the one who bags that potential customer.
  6. Graphics
Using graphics can help to balance a website; however don’t go overboard with large flashing graphics or banners. Too much can take away a websites credibility. Also be aware that they can slow down the speed of your website significantly.
  7. Content
An interesting and informative content is what keeps visitors returning to a good website. Make sure you keep your website updated regularly; maybe include a “What’s New” link to keep your visitors informed of any updates you may make.
  8. AdSense ads
If you decide to include AdSense ads on your page beware that it may not be received so well by some visitors. Also try to limit the amount of ads on your page as it can downgrade the quality of your site.
  9. Audio
If you decide to use audio on your website, changing the default setting will give the visitor the option to control whether they want to hear the audio or not. This needs to be made clearly visible for the visitor.
  10. Pop-ups
They can be a nuisance, adding a form to your page in a visible spot can be more effective and less intrusive.

What you want to be able to achieve is a functioning, well laid out website that has a successful visitor base.
