User Intent : Know Your Audience

An integral part of improving your SEO is to know your audience. If you know your audience, you can provide them with the answers they may be searching for – gaining more visitors to your website, and as a result sell more product.

What is User Intent

User intent is what users are thinking when they type their query into google. Sometimes referred to as Search intent, understanding user intent will help you cater to new potential clients and audiences by delivering the answers they need on your site.

User intent shapes SEO strategy, and keeps your focus throughout implementation.

Analysing Your Audience

A great way to start is to analyse your audience. By connecting your Google Analytics and Google Search Console to your website, you can track your traffic, the demographics and what search queries are currently sending traffic to your site.

By learning about your current audience, you can see where the gaps are in your current reach, and what content attracts well (and what doesn’t).

Reach A New Audience

Say you sell garden trowels, but none of the searches that lead to your site have anything to do with trowels. Your first step is to ensure that trowels are mentioned in your site’s description and meta data. The next step is to ensure your product listings are optimised with the keywords you want to rank for. And final step is to add relevant content, to show search engines that you are an authority on the subject of garden trowels!

Track your progress in Google Analytics to watch as your SEO optimisations are working. Plan 3, 6 and 12 month milestones.
