What size images are best for the product listings on my Xcart shopping website?

that depends a lot on the website as the space for product images varies between websites.

You are right to wonder if it’s important as getting it wrong may look your product pages look pants.

I’ve checked on your site and a maximum of 500 pixels wide is going to right for you, max width is 750,

Is there a way to identify which product a customer is emailing me about when they use the the contact page?

there is a way to manage this issue when a customer asks a very non specific questions about a product.

We have some software called Q Channel that places an “Ask us a question” button next to a product, and then identifies the product to you when a customer asks a question.

It save loads of time in answering questions, and you get an additional benefit, as the software then posts your answer right next to the product.

My Xcart webshop does well but needs more traffic, how can I improve the SEO?

there isn’t a quick answer to this question but here are some DIY tips that will always improve the SEO on an Xcart website or any other for that matter

• Make sure that if you read the name of the product in isolation, you would know what it is.
• Include the product name in the short and full descriptions, the page title and the meta information
• Make your product descriptions as complete as possible, Aim for the short description to be at least 160 characters, and the full to be at least 500.
• Include at least two detailed images and make sure they are at least 1000 pixels on each side
• Complete the meta information

Will there be any downtime for my Xcart store when applying upgrades or patches?

Hi Sarah,

for Xcart patches there may be some downtime, but it shouldn’t be longer than a few minutes in most cases. As long as the patches are kept fairly up to date, they are quick jobs to apply.

for Xcart upgrades the downtime is likely to be an hour or as there is more work involved, really depends on the upgrade

Xcart sites are structured to work well with search engines, someone will still need to add the information into the structure and although this is generally not difficult , it is time consuming to get right

How do I add Sagepay as a payment option for my xcart store?

you’re using Xcart Classic so it’s a relatively quick process to add Sagpepay, mostly it’s a matter of activating the module and adding some configuration options provided by Sagepay,
You do need to apply to Sagepay for an account, and this is straightforward enough, only taking a week or so to achieve.

Is there an easy way to add a large number of similar products into my Xcart shop?

yes there is a way to make a spreadsheet that contains all the details of your new products and then import the sheet to create products and even link to product images.

It takes some careful setting up, but it’s relatively easy to use once it’s ready.

Similar techniques can be used to automate importing inventory and price information from your suppliers into your Xcart shop, a great time saver!

Can I put all items on a 10% sale in bulk, or does it have to be done manually for each one?

usually this is straightforward and you can set all the products you want to to reduce to any discount you choose, but it does need a little advance preparation. With the standard setup, products can be added to a group of products that might be discounted and then the discount just switched on or off. 
However if you want a more complex discount like 10% of when spending £50 or more, these usually need additional setting up, maybe a module or custom coding but nothing complicated, we’d expect to be able to help you with this with an hour or less.
