Why Mobile Responsive Sites Are The Future

Did you know that over 50% of all web traffic now comes via a mobile device? Around 56% in fact [as of April 2021]. For a number of years now Google has been using mobile responsiveness as one of its rank factors. And that means, if you don’t create an SEO strategy that is ‘Mobile First’ rather than just ‘Mobile Friendly’, you are missing a trick. Mobile responsive sites are the future – but they are also the RIGHT NOW too.

Why is a responsive mobile site so important?

Mobile First

These days most new sites are responsive – which means they will be delivered in different styles depending on the device on which they are accessed. Mobile responsiveness is weighted around 4% of Google‘s overall rank algorithm. Ideally, you should be designing your site to be looked at via a mobile device FIRST, and develop outwards to a desktop view.

The good news is, when you have a website built by eCommWeb, we can ensure that the site is lightweight and meets your mobile first design specifications!

Bounce Rate

The mobile site speed is one to pay particular attention to. If your site takes a long time to load on a mobile, users will click away and go to the next site listed instead. This will, in turn, cause search engines to lower your rankings (bounce rate is a rank factor too).

Your bounce rate is the percentage of people who land on a page and leaving again before discovering the delights of your website. For Google this is an indicator of your relevancy in relation to the user query. If your mobile site buries the answer to the user question, your bounce rate is likely to suffer.

Easy to find Content & Social Sharing

So, we’ve established that you should have a mobile responsive site, and that this mobile version should be quick… now, you just have to ensure that you GET TO THE POINT in that first paragraph.

We recommend that your social sharing buttons are in multiple spots (top, bottom and accessible wherever users are on the page), and that within your first paragraph, you tell your audience what the question is and how you intend to answer it!

Utilise your headers and a table of contents too to ensure people on mobile can find the info they are looking for easily.

Mobile Responsive Sites

These are just a few reasons why mobile responsive sites are the future and why you should prioritise mobile in your SEO and marketing plans. These basic improvements will help you optimise your site and content to harness the power of these mobile users.

It’s really very simple – HOW are your audience reaching your site? Are YOU responding to that with speed and content delivery? If so, well done!
