What this name is good for

Wood and stone, which between them cover most of what an outdoor project is actually made of. It reads as one word and sounds like an established firm rather than a description, which is a useful combination: warm enough for a consumer brand, solid enough for a trade one.

The clearest fit is landscaping and hard landscaping — patios, paving, sleepers, decking, walling. A firm doing that work is selling wood and stone all day and currently trading, most likely, as somebody's surname and sons. It works equally for a builders' merchant or stone yard, a garden centre with a serious outdoor materials side, a fencing and decking supplier, or a reclamation yard.

Indoors it carries a fireplace and stove business rather well, since those are literally wood and stone, and it would suit a flooring specialist dealing in solid timber and natural tile.

It has a third life as a place name. Woodstones sounds like somewhere — which makes it plausible for a housing development, a holiday cottage, a wedding venue, a campsite or a care home, none of which have anything to do with materials.

The .co.uk suits all of it. Every business listed here sells to people within driving distance.
