X-Cart module

Royal Mail Click & Drop,
in four clicks

Getting a day of orders into Click & Drop and the tracking numbers back out again should not be an afternoon's work. For our X-Cart customers it is not.

  • Built for X-Cart
  • Customers emailed automatically
  • No re-typing

What it is

Click & Drop, without the copying

Click & Drop is Royal Mail’s despatch service, and it is genuinely good: import a spreadsheet of parcels, export the tracking numbers afterwards. The gap is getting your orders into that spreadsheet and the tracking numbers back into your shop. This closes it.

  1. 01

From X-Cart to Click & Drop

In your X-Cart admin, open Orders, tick the ones you are sending, and press the export button. It is labelled DMO by default, though we can call it whatever makes sense to your team. Save the spreadsheet.

  2. 02

    Upload to Click & Drop

Log in to Click & Drop and upload that spreadsheet. Every order comes through with the address already on it.

  3. 03

    Export your tracking numbers

Once the parcels are despatched, go to Reports, then Despatched orders. Select them, choose Export to XLS, and save the file.

  4. 04

    Import the tracking numbers back

Back in your admin, go to Orders, then Import Tracking Numbers, and choose that file. Every order gets its tracking number, and every customer gets an email containing it. You do not type a single one.

Why it exists

Built because somebody asked

Most of our best modules started as a client describing the dull part of their day. This one is no different.

  • It was a customer's idea

Our X-Cart shops were already using Click & Drop for their daily post and asked whether the copying back and forth could be cut down. This is the answer they asked for.

  • The customer email is the point

A tracking number that reaches the customer without anybody remembering to send it is the difference between "where is my parcel?" and silence.

  • Scales with the day

Ten orders or three hundred, it is the same four steps. The work does not grow with the volume, which is the whole idea.

Not on X-Cart?

The same idea works anywhere

This one was written for X-Cart, but despatch is despatch. We have built the same kind of thing for shops on other platforms — tell us what you run and how you send parcels, and we will tell you what is possible.

Tell us how many parcels go out on a normal day and we will tell you what this would save you.
