Instagram can be a fickle beast, but there are some best practices when it comes to content marketing. Try these tips on your business instagram today!

Why content matters on Instagram

Instagram is a visual platform (and more and more a video content platform), so it's important to consider your visual content when planning your social media schedule. On top of the visual side, creating stories and engaging captions will help the whole process along.

Content marketing tips:

1. Ask yourself what would appeal to your audience

Through A/B testing, analytics research and learning about your audience, you can evolve your content to what delivers best results. Keep an eye on the time of the day which reaches your audience the best, and what garners the best engagement.

2. Tell a story

It's not all about sales. It's about engagement, fun, and telling a story. Choose to tell your story, put a face to the name, and create more than just sales posts. Products and businesses become much more appealing when you couch sales into a mix of content - fun, interesting and sales.

3. Keep to a 'look and feel' on your grid

From a purely visual perspective, Instagram requires a certain level of curation to make the grid shine. Choosing a style or theme for your photos and videos will help keep your grid looking cohesive. Pick a filter, or thematic colours to help make your content recognisable.

If you are short on time, consider trying a scheduling tool.

4. Engage either side

We've talked about engagement in our social media tips before, but this really can't be overstated. Engaging before and after posting (for 20-30 minutes) drastically increases the reach of your new post.

5. Content marketing can be fun

It's not all hard work and pressure, it's ok to make content marketing fun! Fun posts can help to make sure your audience doesn't always feel the pressure to buy. You can note important holidays, share fun and related content, or share business owner info.
